now keep in mind that I’m an artist. That means I’m sensitive about my shit.

So, I’m giving serious thought to that Epic thing I mentioned earlier. Wondering if I could actually pull it off. I’m going through my mind trying to think of interesting Marvel characters that are not currently being used that I could come up with stories for that people might want to read. Off the top of my head I can think of:

Nomad
Vagabond
Ka-Zar
Shanna, the She-Devil
Johnny Blaze
Flag Smasher
Puma
Silver Sable and the Wild Pack
Illyana Rasputin
Rachel Summers

I have at least some smidgen of an idea for each of those. Do people think any of those characters are cool? Would you want to read about them? Do you even know who they are well enough to give me 22 pages of leeway to tell a story? Does anyone have another favorite under-utilized character that they’d like to see me take a shot at scripting? I’m looking for as much input as possible here, so forward this to your comic reading friends.

I know nothing about any of them (but then, you knew that), however I think Vagabond would be the obvious choice.

i was gonna say the same thing. for you, that is.

if you were doing it to make me happy, it would be the she-devil or rachel summers. ilyana rasputin sounds familiar too, and female, but not quite as fun as those 2.

I don’t really have a story for shanna… I just mentioned her because she’s a Ka-Zar supporting character. I really don’t think she’s tht interesting without Ka-Zar to play off of. Rachel on the other hand I think is a great character that has never been used correctly, but there is so much damage there to undo. Illyana is one of my all time favorite characters but like Rachel there is so much damage to undo and I’d have my hands tied by X-Universe stuff… Epic seems to be all about freedom to tell good stories, so I’m really liking the idea of working with Vagabond… maybe with Nomad. Maybe not.

yeah, I guess…. and she’s a character with almost no previous history or use, so I’d have pretty free reign. I had actually envisioned a Nomad/Vagabond joint series about 2 disillusoned cast off Captain America sidekicks wandering the country trying to find their own way. Knowing they aren’t quite pure-bred superheroes, but knowing they can’t go back to being normal people either. So traveling around in search of what they will become.

i don’t know any of them either, but if watchmen teaches us anything it’s that that doesn’t matter.

exactly… speaking of which… the other 2 people who have responded to this thread were supposed to be reading watchmen, but I don’t think they have yet…. tsk tsk… they are so missing out…

but really, yeah, that’s my point… I was trying to pick kind of obscure characters that were part of the world but could also be worked with to tell really good new stories…

I’m kinda randomly sketching now… maybe I’ll work up some story ideas tomorrow.

Ok, Ok, I’m going to start reading it after work tomorrow. See, I’m putting it on my nightstand right now!

Adam Warlock needs to be bought back.

Or rather, bought back in a way that does not irritate me.

never been that big a fan. I guess I just tie Warlock very very very closely to Starlin and so in my mind no one else (including myself) should ever be writing him. And its not the kinda story I’m really interested in telling anyway.
