played tennis with max1975 against wooble and beststephi. Won both matches, 6-3, 6-4 and 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, thus showing who exactly is mentally strong and who is mentally weak. This win moves Max up to first on the doubles ladder and me up to second. Geoff is now 3rd, and Steph is 4th. She claims that she is actually the best doubles player, and its just that she hasn’t had a chance to team up with Max yet (actually she did, and they won together, back when I used to suck), and that once she does, she’ll win and proove that she’s actually better than both Geoff and I. Ummm, no, I don’t understand her logic either (actually, it won’t prove she’s better, it will just proove that Max is a lot better). No matter, I will happily team up with Geoff next time, and give Steph and Max a sound thrashing thus assuming my rightful place at the top of the ladder, the way god intended it…

you see, and i had been kind and didn’t bring up that you used “here” instead of “hear” in your reply to Justina’s post.

let those without sin be the first to cast stones. or something like that. (in fairness, i should mention that i’ve been substituting homonyms for each other ridiculously frequently lately, but i usually catch it before commitment, unless it’s an IM.)

It was really more that I felt like flaming Mav and needed an excuse. I have to live with the trash talk, you see.

Actually, I’m still inclined to think Steph’s the best player. I’ve just been very good at winning, lately, and she’s been on the wrong side.

But it was pretty awesome that we beat steph n’ geoff; i didn’t think we could do it. we must have improved. hooray for us! we’re so cool.

    what i really said

What I actually said was that I thought I wasn’t the worst doubles player (even though the rankings indicate otherwise), and that I thought Max was the best doubles player. I think we need to start recording all our conversations…

Mav probably just misheard you, being in the ecstatic throes of victory and all…

      Re: what i really said

yeah, I didn’t mishear you. I just disagree with you. I think that you are the worst doubles player, (of the 4 of us) and right now the rankings reflect that. I think you are probably the best singles player, but you appear to be in second place, but that’s only because you haven’t played Max yet. If you play him once and win, I expect you will immediately move up into second place. If you play him and lose you may or may not move behind me, I’m not sure. You’ll probably be ahead of me slightly still.

On the other hand, even if you and Max manage to beat me and Geoff, you won’t move up in the doubles rankings at all. Max will. Because it will show that the only way you can win is to be partnered with Max (who is already in first place). In order to move up right now, you really need to win a game when partnered with Geoff or me, or win a whole lot of games when partnered with Max. Otherwise, Dana who’s in last place right now, would be able to partner exclusively with Andre Agassi and just pass us all, and that wouldn’t be fair.

        Re: what i really said

Um, no, I’m pretty sure that when Steph and I beat you guys, she’ll move up more than I will. I can’t move up, I’m already at the top. Maybe she won’t pass anyone at first, but after we’ve beaten you two or three times, she’ll move up.

Yes, the only way she can win is to be partnered with me, but that’s the only way anyone wins these days…

          Re: what i really said

well, your rating can still improve. Your ranking just can’t. That’s the thing. If you truly are the best and “people can only win when they’re partnered with you” then partnering with you won’t help her. The quality point thing makes that work out. If she really wants to go up, what she should do is not play with you at all, and beat me and geoff when partnered with George.

            Re: what i really said

There’s no doubt that would help her more, but if she racks up a string of wins while you and geoff accumulate losses, she’s going to move up.

            Re: what i really said

Changes in quality points are based mostly on whether you win or lose your most recent match.
