living by committee 4 lyf!

As I was mentioning to some people the other day at the party, I’ve been thinking of getting another tattoo. This one I was thinking of putting on my left shoulder, upper arm. I’ve been playing with designs, and wouldn’t mind some input. Here are the current designs (clicking on the image will give you a bigger shot):

I was thinking of maybe getting it after I get a new job to sort of reward myself. You know, in the unlikely event that I am ever actually employed again.

So, anyway votes and comments, please?

Also, what do you think of the basic design, or anything else you might want to say?

om

Being in texas right now, 3 reminds me most of horns. However, I like 3 also for the less cluttered outside–adding the extra length gives more elegance to the design, even though the center is substantially the same.

hmmm… good point about the less cluttered look… actually the center is exactly the same… you’re right, each design difference is purely through elongation…

    Robot Spider

I like the one that you have now, but these 3 look almost too busy. I was pleased to see that I chose the one that you and picked though. I think it has the best proportions.

yeah, steph doesn’t like these as much either, cuz she says they look like a bug and that’s scary…. originally she was going to choose #1 and then decided on 2… I’m torn between 2 and 3.

They all look like scary bugs.

they remind me of the biohazard symbol. not that they’re exactly like it, just that’s what they make me think of.

yeah… I know… I thought of that too… but was trying to avoid it… there is something more to it though that no one has seemed to notice yet…

          Re: Robot Spider

yeah… she thinks they all do, as opposed to the heaven sigil which I already have…

I wanted it to look sort of like a bug… a scarab actually

            Re: Robot Spider

So I answered #1 for the poll, but now I’ve changed my mind and like 3 best. Even though it also looks like a scary bug.

do any of these /mean/ anything?

or is it possible through some sort of hyroglyphics to try to apply meaning where there so clearly is none?

    end.

Re: do any of these /mean/ anything?

yes, they have meaning… since no one said anything about it though, I’m to take it that it isn’t as obvious as I thought it was… which is perfectly fine by me…

      ummm… who are you?

    mav hun,
you just need to get the one that YOU like most 😀

yes, wise words of advice… hehe

yeah… unfortunately, I’m not quite sure which on that is. I am leaning heavily towards 2, but I wanted to see what other people thought…

yes, luv, you are wise beyond your years. How are things going?

      1. July 7, 2003 at 11:42 pm

i’m about as wise as a rabbit
a rabbit that gets beaten by snails

yeah, 2 is definitely better than 3, but 1 is my favorite

then again, on the other hand…
i’m not a big fan of the big scary bugs altogether
personally, i prefer butterflies, but thats just me
and i’ve always wanted a tiny black star on my foot
but i’m too wussy for that much commitment (and pain!!)

        hope all is well
        much love from florida

I voted for 3, but what I really wanted to vote for was a combination that contained the elegant upswept arcs of 3, but the lower center-of-gravity of 1 & 2.

so you want the longer upwards arms, but the shorter downwards ones, basically… hmmm…

      1. July 7, 2003 at 1:28 pm

Well, what I meant was the way that #3 has the long upper … legs? but the way #’s 1 & 2 have a lower center of gravity. Like… if you go with Max’s bug concept, the part I’m talking about would be the body of the bug.

I guess another way to put it would be take the elegant legs from #3 and stick ’em on #1, and there you have it.

They do look a lot like the biohazard signs. What are they supposed to be?

I assure you it is not… the biohazard sign looks like this:

Though I can see the similarities…

What are they supposed to be?

well there are several things I had in mind when I designed it… I’m still waiting to see if anyone can work it out…

      1. July 12, 2003 at 2:51 pm

I think I know what it is supposed to be, but I’m not telling.

  7. July 13, 2003 at 4:29 am

I don’t know what they’re supposed to be, but I don’t see scary bugs (except 2 and 3). All I can see when left to my own devices is various subtly obscene (not necessarily in a bad way – I would’ve used the more mild “explicit,” only the subtlety makes it the opposite of explicit – English’s multiple meanings can get you into trouble like that) shapes. or.. um. whatever the visual equivalent of an allusion/implication is.

Of course, now that everyone else has told me to see scary bugs/spiders/scarabs, I can see them too, but still not in design 1. Unpleasantly, I find that when I’m seeing them as bugs, design 1 is the worst, though when I saw them at first, it was the best.

Now I like 2 the best – 3 seems too precarious and un-unified.. it gives me a sense of identity crisis or something, where parts (the spindly supporting/bottom legs and the recklessly expanding upper legs) are just getting too far away from others, or from self (same with the long outward arms of 1). Despite the symmetry, it feels like it could lose its balance any minute, and I prefer the stability, confidence, and poise of 2.

Words are hard to communicate in.

so, uh, how come you didn’t vote then?
