Dammit! Why God? Why?!? Father Guido Sarducci is out. This completely sucks…
*sigh*
So my initial inclination was to switch my official support to 19-year-old Elizabeth Swaney, mostly because she’s kinda cute, and unlikely to win, so she kinda fits my profile for randomly supporting a candidate…. (you know, the same way that Perot was kinda cute, and didn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hades of winning). But after examining the candidates a little closer, I think I’m going to have to throw my support behind porn star Mary Carey, because (and I am absolutely serious here) I actually really like her platform. At the very least, I like it better than I like Liz’s.
So there you go… Mary Carey for governor!
You realize that you’re not a resident of California, right?
yeah… hence my supporting candidates, as opposed to running for governor myself…
Making lap dances a tax deductible business expense seems like a subsidy for the lap dancing industry. Other than that, most of her ideas seem reasonable.
yeah, as does giving ambassador jobs to her fellow porn stars… but you know, everyone in politics gives a little extra attention to their lobbyists, so it doesn’t bother me too much… And really, tax deductible lap dances seems relatively harmless…
The problem I have with deductible lap dances is that is seems like it would encourage excluding women in business transactions, like a men’s-only golf club does. So if they’re going to do that, they should also have tax deductible shopping trips.
see, I think that’s pretty damn sexist of you, and pretty homophobic to boot. Exactly where does she say that only men can deduct lap dances? Women can receive lap dances just as easily as men. First of all, there are male strippers that offer lap dances (well, or suitable substitutes), and second there are many women who enjoy lapdances from women. Furthermore, there are many women (like yourself) who don’t even like shopping… so bah! bah I say!
hmmm…. now I need to get back to writing my proposal to her to legalize and make prostitution tax deductible…
There are certain physiological facts that make even women of the persuation to enjoy such an event less able to physically enjoy it, thus less likely to do it anyway. Furthermore, it can be argued that it *IS* a form of exploitation that propagates negative social stereotypes, whether or not the women agree to do it. (But that is certainly an argument for another time…)
actually lap dances don’t necessarilly involve physical contact And again, likelihood of doing it doesn’t make a right sexist. For instance (as I pointed out to offline), men are much more likely to own guns than women, but that doesn’t mean that women get an extra right to make up for it. You don’t get to turn down your right to free speech and ask for the right to steal things instead.
As for the exploitation argument, yes, this is absolutely irrelevant to the point at hand. But I do have strong opinions there as well, that we can discuss separately if you want.
But I do have strong opinions there as well,…
strong opinions? you? i don’t believe it. ;->
