thanx…the color on the picture looks awful though… will have to take a better one…

    very nice!

where did you have it done? I will eventually get a new one; both of my others were done in NH.

      Re: very nice!

I use Eye Candy on Craig Street in Oakland. They’re more expensive than other people, but they do a really good job (particularly if you want fine detail, granted that both of mine are flat black iconic tribal designs) and they’re very clean. Ask for Jason.

        Re: very nice!

I have some tats with detail, and Jason does, indeed, do good work.

hmm do the tribal symbols have any meanings behind them?

    Ps..

    they look awesome=)

      wow… haven’t heard from you in a while… 🙂

anyway, the tattoo meanings are explained here. Look at answer #5

    ooooo ahhhhhh
I swear, if I had been asked years ago which of my sons would get tatooed, I would have said Marcus. I NEVER would have guessed you and Sean! Glad you got #2; that’s the one I voted for.

nah… Marcus was always in trouble as a kid, but never really the type that I would think of as a stereotypical tattoo freak. Sean I would see as a burly biker tattoo type. Me, I’m more of a alternative lifestyle GenX slacker.

hmmmm, that’s interesting. Maybe I can get you to design something for me. I’ve always wanted a tatoo.

          like what?

Wow, looks like an insectoid creature. very tribal. looks great.

would it be annoying to ask “did it hurt?”

well… the original discussion about it was here, and I finally discussed the meaning here. So there is a little bit of insect in there (and a lot of other stuff).

Ummm, you have a tattoo, you know how they feel. 🙂 It does hurt, and in fact this one was a little worse than I remember the last one (partucularly the after pains). Its ona a fleshier part of my body, and its bigger, so who knows why. But I’m pretty good at ignoring pain, and I heal pretty fast so its no big deal to me. I do understand why other people don’t like it though.

    Re: dood!

I wasn’t sure I was going to. Then I finished what I was working on and I had some time on my hands (and I won’t have as much again til after I get back from Europe probably) so I decided why not. Sorry… I should have asked if you wanted to come with me.

looks good. hard to tell how big it is in comparison to the other, though… you should post scaled pictures.

on an aside, would Eye Candy be a good place to go to get my dragonfly touched up? now that i’ve been deferred from donating platelets for a year (i went to link to that and realized i didn’t post anything about it… aftermath of being bitten by the stray), it’s an opportune time to do the tattoo thing. anyway, i’m wanting color that will not fade, at least not immediately. plus lacy wing tracery replaced. (ooh, i like how that sounds.)

The new one basically takes up my entire left shoulder (as opposed to the old one which is much smaller inside my right sholder blade)

Yeah, I like Eye Candy a lot. And judging by their books, they are really good at touch ups and corrections. For both of mine, I did the design, took it in, and had them copy it exactly. Jameel on the other hand (and he can correct me if I’m wrong) had most of his done by just describing what he wanted to Jason and Jason sketched it out himself. He’s a very good artist, and if there weren’t exact specific things I wanted, he’d be the person I’d want coming up with things. In general, Eye Candy is a little more expensive than other shops, but very clean, and they do so much better work too. And really, I’d much rather spend an extra 20 bucks than get hepatitis.

      1. September 3, 2003 at 11:03 pm

My first tattoo at Eye Candy (my second tattoo overall) was done from a photocopy out of a book I have. Jason modified it some, adding the gradient. The second one I described to Jason, only to find that he already had it drawn (some girl had decided that it didn’t look Egyptian enough for her, but I liked it fine). The third and fourth are both right out of popular culture (the StarBrand and the Transformers faction symbols).

You can see his work here

Damn it, Mav, now you’ve got me wanting another tattoo, and I’d just decided to donate platelets for a while again….

thanx… hey, do you have any?

      1. September 4, 2003 at 7:33 pm

Actually, I don’t. I’m just a big pain chicken if you can believe it. And the few times I really thought about it, I realized that I couldn’t make up my mind about what I wanted. I know, so lame.

not really, because the worse thing you could do would be to get a tattoo that seemed cool at the time but that you aren’t really sure of. I mean, you could be walking around with a big “Slayer” logo on your ass.

shit, mav, when did you get so BUFF?

oh, and nice tattoo, i guess.. although i am partial to shoulders. shit. or maybe that’s the hormones speaking. i think i need therapy.

also, how come you didn’t call? i was gonna go.

I work out… a LOT… I am now operating at approximately 33.33334751% of total genetic freak potential. But really, how can you tell how buff I am from that picture?

I tried calling but I only have your cell phone number from a year ago. Steph was supposed to send you mail and let you know I was there.

whee… I’m so sexy girls need therapy!

      1. September 5, 2003 at 10:46 am

i dunno. like i said, could just be the hormones speaking. naked man flesh = sexy to hormone cyclone. but i don’t remember your shoulder being that big at, say, the last jammy jam i came to. i like it. tattoos are good on nice shoulders. i approve. and i need therapy. but i’m not sure it’s your fault.

yeah, she did send mail, only i’m never at the computer, so i didn’t get it in time =(. i’ll have to get you my new cell number somehow soon.

Hey! I am big and sexy and the ladies love me. You saw my shoulder and your loins exploded with so much fury that you had to be institutionalized. I am a sexy bitch. Now stop trying to ruin it for me goddammit! 😉

Anyway, I always had nice shoulders and arms, one of my better features, but yeah, they probably are even better now. Next time I see you, I’ll even flex and give you a thrill…. 🙂 (and you can give me your new phone number)
