more dress up Maverick…

so last week I polled people on what wrestling pants I should get. My design with the flames was the clear cut victor, but actually, I don’t so much like that because flames are just very very common in wrestling gear. And also, it just didn’t seem totally me. So I was thinking of other designs and I came up with these… wondering what people think of them.

new pants designs

for reference, the original designs are here.

And of course any other comments and suggestions are welcome. I’m inclined to stick with black and red. Anybody have other color suggestions? Other design suggestions?

Mav I mostly like all of your designs for pants except that they all have a teeny ass patch or pocket on them that I kind of dislike. For some reason, the idea of anything small like that on an ass always makes the ass look unreasonably bigger to me. Maybe a bigger ass patch would be better?

I think the symmetrical belts are a good balance to the asymmetrical sigils. I’m not sure I’m so big on the ass patch, but the side patch is definitely a winner. Maybe if the smaller one was also on the same side, further down?

This is a good idea. It gets rid of the “my asspatch makes my ass look big” problem, but you still get to work in another bit of your picture.

The thing to be careful of with this is that while it would be easily visible on the flat pants diagram, it may not be so easily discernable on actual, curved pants. Especially not if it’s on the side of the knee or the calf.

A test patch may be in order.

    uninformed opinion

I don’t think the buckles would look right especially if you are getting looser fitting pants. I think you should do your outfit up like an updated version of the ultimate warrior instead. Get red biker shorts, put a big black sigil on the butt. Put 2 smaller sigils on either side at the hip. Then put red sigils on black knee and elbow pads. You could put an assymetrical stripe around one thigh spelling out your name or something. I also think since you are kind of a geezer, relative to your wrestling peers, you should wear the old school wrestling boots that laced all the way up your calf.

Have you looked at the create a wrestler modeling thing in the new smackdown game for ps2? It is very detailed. You could make a mock up of yourself quickly and then do screen captures for a better design examples.

I like just the sigils dammit. All the crap on the legs is too busy. I don’t care if it is flames or stripes or belts or happy monkey faces. Just the black with red sigils. The end.

the problem with just sigils is that its very basic. Very basic is bad. The entire point is to stand out from the mass of other nameless wrestlers. Solid color pants or tights with a symbol or text on the side or written across the back of the butt is pretty much what everyone does, so I’m trying to add an extra bit of flair. Only given that I’m me, and I’m pretty much me in the wrestling world as well, I want to keep it reasonably something I might wear in real life, hence my trying to keep them as much like my regular pants as possible. But adding stuff to make them stand out as well.

Slap a label on me and call me a minimalist.
        May I suggest bell-bottoms?

I dunno…I guess we have to talk about shoes, then. Because there’s no sense in getting fancy shoes/boots if you’ve got stuff on the bottom of your pants that you want people to look at.

yeah, I’ve been thinking about that a lot actually… there are a few different ways I could go. I could obviously go with just plain wrestling boots, but I don’t much like those. Seeing as how I’m wearing long pants, I coujld just wear really functional boxing/wrestling shoes like these or these. Or if I wanted to be a little fancier, these. Or if I really want to spend money, I can get something like these custom made. But in the right color scheme. And maybe with the straps on the sides or fronts. What do you think?

Choice #4 seems to match your motif. Choice #2 have the stamp of affordability, though, too. I think if you’re getting extraflashy with the pants, maybe you want to play down the shoes though. You can only be so fruitloopy. ;p
