on 365 days… (steph’s birthday and a new meme that no one will do)

first of all, happy birthday to the very bestest girlfriend in the whole wide world, beststephi. You may think your girlfriend is the bestest, but you’d be wrong. I mean, its right there in her name.

So anyway, despite being the best, Steph can also be lame sometimes, and she fell asleep around 11 or so, an hour before her birthday, so I’ve basically been web browsing the last few hours from our hotel room (we went out to Warren, PA to go hiking). I took a break just after midnight to whisper-sing happy birthday in her ear, a fact that I’m sure she won’t remember. Oh well. Anyway, if you happen to be up at 2am on a Saturday morning, you should totally wish her a happy birthday here, so she has lots of well wishes when she wakes in the morning. Ok, if you’re not up, tell her happy birthday anyway, cuz she’s like the bestest and stuff.

So, anyway while browsing flickr, I ran across this photo by stephenpoff. I liked it and then started looking at his photostream and then realized that since the 1st of this year he has taken a self-portrait every day and hopes to do the same every day for a year. I immediately decided that I had to do the same.

It should be an interesting exercise, I wonder if I’ll actually manage to hit every single day or not. The main thing that interests me about it is that its self portraits. Despite having an ego as big as Iowa, I’ve neer been all that fond of myself as a photo subject. It can be a pain in the ass to come up with a good idea and then manage to take one good picture of myself. Much less 365. It should be an interesting exercise and hey maybe it’ll even make me a better photographer. Or at least better at taking self portraits. I’m really looking forward to August 11th, 2007 when I can look back and see what I’ve done with this project over the course of a year.

Anyway, I figured I might as well challenge other people to do the same. Why should I suffer through this alone? Granted, no one eer likes my meme ideas and this one is going to be a hell of a lot of work. But it should be fun. And if you miss a day here or there. Well, fuck it! Who really cares anyway. So if you like photography, or taking self portraits, or you’re just up for a challenge and you’re interested in doing this, let me know. And if you know someone else who’d be interested in this, please tell them to comment here so I know where to find them as well, as I’d like to watch other people’s too. I probably won’t bother to post every single one to LJ, but I think I will put them all in this flickr set. So if you want to follow along and look, that’s where they’ll be.
