Day 19 of 365 days. This is kind of another high concept piece. I had this idea yesterday, when I woke up and took the second half of my self-portrait. There I had before and after sleep, but how did that transition take place. To find out I did a little experiment. What we have here is a picture taken of my bed every 5 min. starting at midnight and ending with me kissing Steph goodbye and leaving for work in the morning. Its not about great photography, its about… I dunno… movement? transition? you tell me.

Anyway, I want to thank my lovely fiancee, Stephanie (who since she sleeps more than I do, actually appears in more of the shots than I do) for agreeing to not only be photographed next to me while she was sleeping but to sleep for one night with a small light on so that the pictures could actually come out. Sadly, I could not convince her to do anything naughty on camera, but it was really nice of her to let me impose upon her for the project.

Steph previously appeared (sort of) as one of the many ghosted images in the 8-17-06 picture.

for those who care, the individual frames are a little more clear viewed large.

@assbach: if you look at the bigger size you can see a little better. But really, there isn’t much to see. It mostly just us laying there and shifting around a bunch every 5 min. for 8 hours. 🙂

yeah, sure, but i cannot see the little "all sizes" icon above the image, you know 😉 Thanks for the link mav!

  5. August 30, 2006 at 10:45 am

It’s overwhelming, but in a good way. 🙂

And I also feel like I’m peeking at something I shouldn’t see… I like it.

how did you tell your cam to do a shot every 5 minutes?

yeah, tell us the secret of how your camera was able to take a shot every 5 minutes or so?? it’s quite interesting…i was scared for a moment that you cloned yourself that many times…. i couldn’t keep up with more 365 days groups if you duplicated yourself!

@Culotte Folle and petitie corneille: thankyou. Glad you liked it.

@assbach and pi c’s: Its actually pretty simple. I just have a setting on my camera that lets me do it. I can set it to take from 2-100 pictures at intervals between 1 and 60 minutes. Maybe later I’ll do a series of shots of ice melting or something.

man that’s a good idea brilliantly executed! I love the slow light changes when the morning com, the whole is very graphic ans it is interesting to try to see something in the small images.
Congratulations mav’! Did you already find your tomorrow’s idea?

two things 1. you need a bigger bed 2. your a blanket hog dude.

  14. September 30, 2006 at 5:48 pm

yes, we do need a bigger bed. We’ll get one once we’re done refinishing the new master bedroom. As for being a blanket hog. She didn’t want to be under it as it was still hot back then. At least for her (I got cold)

A fascinating series. I especially like seeing the changing of the light (since the rest is just too dim). In small size, it makes a nice wallpaper kind of pattern!

I found this photo following a set link in the Explore My Sets – Add 1, Comment/Fave 3 Group
