And speaking of not knowing how to use the new camera… Took the 400D to my friend Gina’s yoga studio to take some pictures of her doing pregnancy yoga for her (and give me the chance to become more familiar with it). Took a whole bunch (including all of the ones of me) before I realized it was set to 1600 ISO. *sigh* I’ll get the hang of this eventually. Got home and discovered that neither Photoshop CS2 not iPhoto can read the current version of .CR2 files so I am forced to use Canon EOS tools to convert. Which while a better UI than I expected is just an extra step in the workflow and makes me wonder why I’m not just shooting JPEGs to start with. ARGH!
Anyway, I’m getting the hang of it now. Here’s a picture of me setting up my tripod in the yoga mirror.
"I DO MY OWN STUNTS"
My son has that exact shirt in size 2T, Chris! Got it at Target.
I forget to check my ISO all the time. Or shutter speed, or aperture, or all of the above. That comes from spending nearly all my time on "P" for 2 years with my old Digital Rebel (300D).
Funny funny…..i almost bought that same shirt for my son but then shannon got it for HER son! Must be a popular shirt 😀 Little guy got the one that says: "it seemed like a good idea at the time" (I think something we can ALL relate to occassionally!
Mav…good luck with the camera…one day i’ll be going through the same thing you are but I think I’m sticking with the POS for my next digital…I’ve got my old SLR (Pentax K1000) with some fancy lens that my grandmother got but since my actual "photography" skill is limited I should hold off til the little guys older and I have time to read manuals!
Re: the camera – Well, on my G3, the ISO appeared on the side of every shot when I looked at the LCD screen, as well as on the top status panel on the camera, and it only went up to 400 ISO anyway, so even if it was off, it wasn’t AWFUL. The XTi doesn’t have a top panel though, and the ISO only appears in the LCD screen when the image ISN’T showing and when that’s happening, I’m usually looking through the lens composing the next shot. I mean, its not the end of the world, but I’m looking at the pics and I can tell and it bothers me. *sigh* Live and learn. I never have a problem with apeture and shutter speed. I adjust them manually a lot, so I’m used to tweaking them whenever I’m in Av, Tv, or M. But yeah, I do sometimes get lazy and just use P.
Re: T-Shirt – Yep, in fact some woman at the yoga class had a shirt with the slogan but not the picture. I’m quite fond of goofy t-shirts and tend to incorporate them into my wrestling persona, so I have a lot. Many from Target, and many from http://www.tshirthell.com, which I assume may be a little outside of Z’s humor range. Of course they do have baby hell, but… 🙂
Mav.. You can get a plugin to cs2 so you can use it to the RAW pictures :o)
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
Or you can use a freeware program called RAW shooter http://www.photo-freeware.net/raw-shooter-essentials.php Not as heavy in use as cs2 (well of couse only for Win :op )
@cirkusprinsesse: oh, I have a raw plugin for photoshop. I was shooting raw on my G3, and then I upgraded to the newest one from adobe yesterday anyway. But the problem is since the 400D was only released like 2 weeks ago, Adobe doesn’t have a plugin that supports it yet. Only the 350D. I can use the software that came with it though to covert to tiffs and then take it into photoshop, but its annoying to have to that’s all (even though the interface is decent).
And I’m a mac user. Better than windows users. 😛
Ahh I actually thought the format to 350d and 400d would be the same.. Well I learn every day :o)
Another proud owner of "I do my own stunts" t-shirt.
