Day 83 of 365 days.
Today was the 8th anniversary of my first date with Steph. We celebrate it as any married couple would celebrate their anniversary. Its just that we never really bothered to get married. We’re quite content to just be living in sin. Really, we’ll fix that any day now. Anyway, we went out to a nice local tapas bar for dinner and exchanged gifts at home. Steph got me exactly what I had been wanting, a new set of portrait lights for my basement studio. I just had to take a picture with it tonight. I ended up using a bit more light than I wanted, though, maybe a shorter exposure would have helped. I guess the shot is fine, but I really wanted a darker look to it. Its really hard to light for both her skin tone and mine. Things to work on.
For my part, I gave Steph a new Canon A710IS camera and 1gb memory card for her present. So she has her own camera now and can stop borrowing my old one. She seems happy with it, and maybe if enough people pressure her, she’ll start her own 365 day project.
Added to the Cream of the Crop pool as my best of 2006.

I love this photo as it’s lit. I know how difficult it is to capture the two different skin tones as I have this issue, too with my family.

@sarah and jen: Really, the basement studio isn’t all that impressive. I just happen to have a basement with a lot of room, so that’s where I have my lights and backdrop set up right now. It’s nice for taking pictures, but not perfect. It would be better if there was more room and maybe some interesting furniture. Once we’re done refinishing the attic/3rd floor and that becomes our bedroom, our current bedroom is going to become a guest bedroom, and maybe I’ll move the lights and the backdrops up there and use it instead. Other than the lights, Jen’s one room (with the little mattress and the big window – i think you said it was the "green room") and Sarah’s bedroom (i guess, the one where you took the highconstrast nudes of your back) seem much better. As for the hottub, well, you’re both welcome to use it anytime you want to come and visit Pittsburgh.

This shot is so great of you guys, I can see the love! But you are right about the skin issues, you are just a little darker than she is…..

@jessie: Is it really that weird? I never really thought about it before. Just feels totally natural. Particularly if we’re standing and the person is shorter than me. A brief survey of people who I have smooched and are still goodly enough to talk to me shows that I apparently sometimes do it and sometimes not. Maybe I’m just super romantic! (depsite my offensive t-shirts)

@phlewght: Thankyou, its a twin sized black sheet hanging across a line that I use as the backdrop in a lot of my photos. Over the last day, the texture of the wrinkles in it have kind of grown on me a bit.
