So a little backstory. For the last few years, I’ve had this thing where I refuse to vote for any unopposed candidate, instead voting for myself. I urge others to do the same. A few months back, Pittsburgh’s mayor died and he was succeeded by the President of City Council, Luke Ravenstahl, a 26 year old kid who had won a council seat a couple years earlier right out of college. Now, there’s going to be a special election for mayor next year. Polls show that the kid will probably win reelection.
So this weekend, at dinner, friends were asking me why I didn’t run for the office of mayor. I didn’t really have a good reason. And I’ve been thinking about it for the last couple of days. Why not? I think I’ve make a great alternative dark horse candidate. So should I do it? If I were to run, I’d want to make a legitimate campaign. At least more so than just being a write-in candidate. I wonder what one has to do to get added to the ballot.

You’ve got my vote!
LOL. Great shot.
You sound like you might actually be serious. Hey, they had a wrestler for governor in Minnesota, right? What the hell…go for it!
This picture wins hard.
I’m not registered, nor do I live there, so can’t really help. But I’m here for moral support.
Tell it like it is, Mav!! No double-talk, no equivocation!
LOL!
I don’t live there, but I will use my in-laws address there to vote for you!
Find out and do it! You’d be a great mayor, I think! And then, you wouldn’t even have to work for a living, lol!
With an election poster like that you’d be a sure-fire winner!
And hell why not give it a go? Who knows what avenues it may open up or what new people you’ll meet !
Just make sure there aren’t more cons than pros to it!
I love the idea of running for office because I’m really passionate about politics. However, I would be afraid that something in my rather checkered past would come back to haunt me. Like that time I mooned a Wawa full of cops in Delaware while ludicrously drunk.
@Sandman5: Unfortunately, I need you to be a Pittsburgh resident to vote for me.
@Dave: Yep, I’m serious. If you read my blog you’ll see that I tend to be pretty political at times (in kind of a wacky way, granted)
@Shan: Do you guys actually live in the ctiy? You don’t get to vote for Pgh mayor do you?
@Dottie: Well,I don’t want to advocate voter fraud, but hey, if you can get your in-laws to support me, that’d be great.
@Everyone else: Thank you for the support. If you know people in Pittsburgh, please, by all means get them to pledge their support.
I completely agree with you. I think I’ll try this next election, the whole write-in candidate.
I’d vote for you 🙂
Brilliant!
oh man. drop the kinky slogan. 🙁
other than that, woo!
Well, I guess I’ll need to move to the U.S. and settle in Pittsburgh!
You only live once. I’d vote for you too.
i’d vote for you!
hahahahah
Fantastic, I’d vote for you, my friend, for sure…:*
No, we don’t get to vote for you, but when you run for Gov. I can!
thanx everyone.
OOOH!!! That would be super duper cool mav…you really should look into it and get on it!!! My aunt lives in Pitt proper and I believe would be able to vote in that election…I would definitely tell her to give it serious thought and vote for you!!!
LOL! Awesome campaign poster and probably the best slogan I’ve ever seen. 😉
If you are passionate about politics and think you could stand the machinations of city government, then you should definitely do it!!
If I could, I’d vote maverick !!! =D
I like this pic. Looks like you’re the man for the job.
@rockwilder: heh… unfortunately, I never figured out how to get my name on the ballot.
Hi, I’m an admin for a group called "Vote For Me! (A Self Portrait Group), and we’d love to have this added to the group!
