150 days and still going strong. And they said I was crazy. Ok, maybe they didn’t say I was crazy, but when I started this, I certainly thought it was crazy. And like I said before, now I look forward to it every day. 215 days to go, and it’ll probably be a breeze at this point. It’s gotten a lot easier in many ways, as I’ve kind of become comfortable with this dark black shadow style. I love it. It suits me. But, I kinda wonder if I’m starting to get stagnant creatively. Does using the same style so often become boring? Am I not growing as an artist? I guess I still have seven months to figure that out.
om
I think you need to explore pastels! lol, just kidding. The black and white backgrounds are great.
I wear pastels all the time. In fact I call this color "shocking black."
Well, I do it an awful damn lot too.
You know, I have to say this and I mean it as a compliment because I really like this shot, and because I’ve always actually been kind of fond of the look myself from time to time, but you look very white trash in this picture.
If that needs anymore explaining just let me know.
originally I wanted to do a straight jacket shot paired with that hat. Unforunately, I don’t have a straight jacket (you’d really think I would) and no way to get one on short notice, so I opted for the more trashy look. Tomorrow I have a job interview so I’ll probably be cleaning up a little bit.
it’s actually 215 days to go, not 210 (if this is day 150) but you never claimed to be a math whiz ;-P
right on…still going strong mav! i’m fading…but i will not fail (other than day 144 which i literally did "fail"….oops!)…i may falter, but i will not quit 😉
@pic’s: oops, yep, you’re right. 215. Sigh… oh well, I fixed it. Yeah, I can see that you’ve had less time lately, and have taken just a lot of quick candid shots. But at least you’re sticking with it. When you have more time, you’ll be more arty. Whatever works.
I always do mine in the same style…
Am I bland?
I like the on black thing. It really works for you.
@jessi: you’re are different. You are setting out to create a unified style and have from the beginning. Mine are born of laziness lately.
OK…I am staring…where is the trick? I love your t-shirts.
I don’t think it is stagnant…I think finding different things to do with the same setting (much like jessi’s set) is very artistic. I think it is the same with the self portraits. It is hard finding unique ways to do this.
Anyway…great photo. You have quite the set up.
I think that you will inevitably grow as an artist as this progresses….i think we all are (or most of us). It is impossible not to do so, because none of us want to become stagnant or dull…..
@Dottie: Maybe you aren’t staring long enough… it’s coming any moment now… really.. I promise. 🙂
@Shan: Thanx. I’m trying.
i wouldn’t say it’s stagnant or bland. you’ve found a style that fits you, and it really does. and there are a ton of things you can do creatively within this type of picture. though, if it is bothering you, you have a while left to explore new styles!
@poubelle: Thanx. I actually like the style, and I think it does suit me. But I want to try some other things too. I think I may try something else tomorrow.
I love your style, Mav!
But what I’d really like to see is you dressed like a Catholic schoolgirl. 😉
@Sarah: Girls keep telling me that… Seriously… I am so not that cute in drag.
i think that’s the beauty of this project, there are so many ways to do a SP.
I think discovering a style, or background that suits you, is great, and what you can build from that, either passionately, or lazily is good thing regardless.
lol! i’m loving this shot. the t-shirt combined with the hat make for serious hilarity. unless… of course… you’re serious. then i’m not laughing at you. no, really; i wasn’t laughing….
😉
