Nicki kneeling - b&w

I’ve been continuing to use my time on unemployment to work on my photography. My friend Nicki was nice enough to stop by and model for me. I did my best to make her look like a Maxim covergirl. Luckily half the job was done just by her walking in the door.

My primary suggestion would be to add a backlight of some sort to separate her from the background. Between her face and her thighs we get no sense of form at all, as her black top bleeds right into the black background.

I would have to agree with QXZ. You need a backlight on your background to draw attention to the model as her top disappears with the background. It almost looks as if she has no mid section. Otherwise a really good picture for a canon (Sorry couldn’t resist).

thank you both for taking the time to comment and help. That said, I just thought I’d mention here for you and anyone else who happens to view this pic, that I actually did that on purpose. If you look at other shots in the Nicki set or in my stream in general, you’ll see that one of the effects I use a lot is the black on black background bleed to create the appearance of floating bodyparts. Its actually not that easy to do, getting the lighting completely right. What I find funny is that no one has commented on any other pictures that they didn’t like it, but two people have commented on this specific one. For some reason I guess people really want to see Nicki in one particular shot. Or its just not working as well as it normally does.

Anyway, thank you for commenting once again.
