Day 171 of 365 days.

Today, I went to my pregnant friend Gina’s house to help her make a plaster cast of her torso so that she can remember what she looked like while pregnant forever and ever. I guess its something pregnant women do these days.

Even though I took pictures of the process for her, I never got around to taking one of myself. But the armless torso mold me made of her did give me an idea for my shot today. And so I came home, got in my daily workout (finally made the full hour of cardio today) and got to work. I’m not the type to dirty my hands with icky plaster. Not when I can just do the entire thing digitally in photoshop. And so I present to you: The Venus de Maverick.

    excellent idea mav! i’ve got a plaster cast of my pregnant belly and i worry all the time that something will happen to it…it’s not something i can ever re-make (of course, if i were to get pregnant again–god forbid!-i could, but it still would be different than the first time).

    as for not getting plaster on your hands…you shoulda done it…it was a lot of fun and cleans up pretty easily ;D

    You are brilliant! I love it…I have thought of trying to integrate myself with famous art for a while now and never do it.
    I should really get off my metaphorical ass. 😉

    That is awesome.

    I’ve used classical sculpture as an inspiration for some photos (not too many on 365 yet) but none of them have turned out as remotely cool as this one. Well done.

    I think I saw this in a Paris museum. You’re famous dude! 🙂

    Very cool… it actually reminds me of those statues in the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland… almost like I am waiting for you to blink or look my way or something. Nice work!

    Awesome idea! I never would have described you as "statuesque", but now…….

    This is so awesome…

    You got me all excited and you’re still wearing a sheet. 😛

    thank you everyone. I actually thought this one was rather silly and stupid, so I’m quite happy so many people like it.

    @Jen: actually, I’ve done it before. I made plaster masks of my face in like 6th or 7th grade art class or something like that. And I did end up helping Gina a little as well.

    @Sarah: You totally should. I’ve been meaning to put Steph and I into American Gothic for months and haven’t gotten around to it.

    @Shan: Are you implying I’m not that refined and dignified in person? 😛

    @Jessi: Flatterer
