So I’ve been doing more and more photography lately. Obviously I have my 365 Days project (available for LJ viewing through the 365mav syndicate — cheap plug). But I’ve also been shooting lots of lovely ladies lately. Mostly I’ve just been attempting to approve my skill and my portfolio, but doing so has given me an idea for a photo project.
And I need your help. Or at least the help of 78 people.
What I would like to do is shoot a tarot deck. Or at least make a photo set representing every card of the tarot. I haven’t decided for sure whether every shot would feature a person (for instance, I might want to do something else for the World or the Tower) but I’m certainly going to need people for a great deal of them.
So who wants to model for me? I’ve asked this before of course, but never with a specific point. Now I kind of have one. I kind of don’t want anyone to pose for more than one card, so I really am going to need a lot of people. So whether you’ve posed for me before or not. Whether you’re male or female. Whether you even know me. If you’re interested, please comment here and let me know. And hey, if you know someone else who I don’t know and you think they’d like to do it, please send them to comment here as well. Its not like I have a shortage of spots.
I’m not specifically planning out who is what card yet (because obviously, I don’t have any volunteers), but if you have a specific card you’d like to be (or a few options) feel free to mention that down here as well.
This should be exciting and fun. So does anyone want to help me out?

I’ve never wanted to model, but I’ve always wanted to be the Page of Cups. 🙂
you’re not the only one who asked for that card, but I’ll keep it in mind. I have to see how many people I have before I can start to figure out who is what card.
I’d kinda like to be the Queen of Cups too, but I imagine that might be better suited to someone with bigger….um…cups. 😉
well, there’s a lot to think about. I’m not doing the tarot traditonally, so really, you could end up being anywhere. 🙂
That is a really cool idea. If you have any need I can volunteer me and/or my 3-year old son (he is very photogenic).
yeah, that’d be cool. i was thinking it’d be cool to have kids in there too.
I would like to participate, provided I can be one of the major arcana. My preference would be the Magician, followed by the Emperor, The Devil, Judgement, Justice, the Hangman, or Death.

Could I be Temperance? That’s the card I generally identify with 😉
not sure who is going to be what card yet, but I’ll see what I can do.
I even have a couple of appropriate robes (chemises) and a pair of white feathery wings 🙂
And a sword. But no ostentatious cup, just a few normal pretty ones.
That actually sounds really cool, although it would probably be very difficult for me to participate, given geography. (Well, depending on your timeframe — I certainly am going to visit Pittsburgh again, but I don’t know exactly when…) Also, if you don’t have quite enough interest to do the whole deck (at least at first) I would recommend starting with just the Major Arcana.
the major arcana alone would be way too easy. I like a challenge. Anyway, its going to take quite a while to get through all of them, so yeah, I’ll probably still be working on it whenever you get back up here.

dunno who is going to be what card just yet, but yes, I’d be quite happy if you posed for it.
If I ever come up to visit PA again, I’d love to…warning, I’m not extremely photogenic however.
Mav has a way of making everyone photogenic.
With that said, I’d be in if this project is going to take awhile. I think the next time I’ll be up there is for 4oJ. The only of the major that I really fit is Death or the Tower, with maybe er, I don’t know. In the minor, I see myself more in the sword area, with likely the two of swords being the most apt.
This should be a great project. I look forward to seeing updates.
I’m actually not nearly as concerned with personality of the person and meaning of the card as I am with making cool looking cards. I know that’s actually very untarot, but I have to be a photographer first here.
But I’m sure there’ll be plenty of places you could fit it. 🙂
I’m holding you to it, and you’re plenty cute… photogenic is just about confidence and belief. We’ll get you there. Trust me.

No problem. While I’m thinking, I’ll mention that you’re welcome to take photos of me some other time to get a feel for me before picking which card I’d be. I’m trying to break free from being camera-shy, and I like my body and showing it off.
As for the cards, just asking other people brought suggestions of the Star, the Fool, the Chariot, the Page of Staves, “a cup card,” and the Devil.
well, since I’m a bum and unemployed now, I pretty much have nothing to do during the day most days, so if you’re free you could come over pretty much any day next week to do a shoot. Do you have my phone number or email address? Give me a call or drop me and email and we can set something up.
I’d be up for it, if you’re still taking photos next time I’m in Pittsburgh, which probably won’t be until July (though its possible I’ll show up for Carnival if I find cheap tickets). I even have a good idea for the King or Knight of Wands…

Since you’re asking for all the models to be in Pittsburgh, why not make it similarly Pittsburgh-themed, either with buildings and locales or with symbology that relates to the city?
I think that’d be an interesting project with regards to composition, especially with the numeric cards.
Obviously, there’s “The Tower” of Learning… there’s “three pentacles” in the steel logo… three rivers, 5th Avenue, two stadiums… numerology is easy!
I’m just saying this because I <3 Pittsburgh.
hmmm… making it pittsburgh themed hadn’t really occured to me before. Maybe, maybe not. I dunno. I need to think about it a bit. Obviously, the Cathedral had occured to me already for the tower, and that’s probably what I’ll use. But the pentacles in the steeler logo is and interesting suggestion.
I assumed you were going to use the basic shapes and numbers in each composition anyway, right?
Also, if I can ask for a preference, I’d go with a major arcana – The Devil, The Hanged Man, or Judgement, but my first choice would be the Magician. I’ve always liked that one.

i can shoot myself and put in a clipping path around me and you provide the background… and we have only 2 swords, so i’m hoping for 2 of swords. ^_^ i’m good for mauldlin cards anyways.

believe it or not, you’re not the first person to ask, but no. Part of the point is that I take all of the pictures myself.
I’ll pose. I’ll be in Pittsburgh on March 15th and 16th and then again during part of the following week.
You can also photograph the baby if you have an appropriate card for him.

Can’t think offhand which card would be appropriate for a 8 month pregnant woman…
I dunno. Why not? That said, this is gonna take me months (hopefully not years), and unless you know something I don’t, I doubt you’re going to be 8 months pregnant forever.
What are the chances of you still needing models this summer?
That said, I can’t promise I can get to Pittsburgh, but the chances get far far better after about May 10.

well, whoever the lovers card is will probably have to be naked… just so you guys know. Not sure if that is a plus or a minus for you.

I am generally not into being photographed, but I wondered if you had need of a pregnant woman for any particular card, since I am clearly qualified for that. At least, like, for the next month or two.
heh… I don’t have anything specific in mind, but certainly if you have time and are interested I’d love to put you in. Its a lot of cards. And I kind of want them all to be different, so pregnany is quite fine, and I’m sure it’d fit somewhere.
