I’ve had this idea since maybe the first or second week I started this project. I just never got around to doing it before. I think I even mentioned to TravelinJim on a pic of his that I had a cool long exposure idea. Well, since I’m going to be so busy today, I thought maybe I’d shoot it tonight. Afterall, its after midnight, its a new day. Right?
This was inspired by a couple of things, I have this love of the concept of the pulp hero. Not someone with truly useful super-powers. Just someone mysterious and a little better than normal. I also have this love of the movie The Program which had a cut scene where kids were lying in the middle of the highway, right on the divider as cars whizzed by. But I don’t want cars to whiz by me. No, I want them to go through me. And tonight, I made that happen.
Look, up around that bend. You are about to enter. The Maverick Zone.
Now, maybe I’ll try to get some sleep. It’s after 5am and I really do have a busy day ahead of me.
That’d scare the crap out of the driver of the vehicle. Cool shot.
This is so much closer to the long exposure idea that I want to do. I’m a huge fan of pictures where you can see the subject, frozen in place with the world whizzing by.
This shot is great Mav. Especially with the headlights on either side of you as if the car really did go through you. That’s a very nice twist on the idea.
This is beyond awesome.
Awesome idea and execution! I remember that movie, too and all the hype before and after they cut that scene. Great stuff, mav!
WOW for the 201! Perhaps foolish, but it yielded excellent results.
How many exposures did you take?!
Great shot, Mav! Our minds work too much alike….
@Sick Little Monkey: Only if evil lurks in his heart.
@Travelinjim: thanx, that’s exactly what I’ve wanted to do since I first had the idea. It just took some planning is all.
@gimmie_shoes: Thank you
@Vashtia: Sadly, I don’t think the shot would have worked as well if I was laying down… So i went for a more shadow/ghost idea instead.
@phlewght: I actually pretty much nailed this one. I took 5, and used 3.
@MegaBee: Ummm… yeah, don’t try this at home. I am a trained professional.
awesome!
@getthebubbles: thank you
Very cool… are you going to use this in as your night shot for Take a Class with Dave and Dave? I still have to do mine!
BTW… your Mom sent me over to check on you 😉
@TXAlleKat: I haven’t decided yet… you like it then? I took some others as well. We’ll see.
I instantly faved this Chris! It’s awesome, but I’m really glad it’s a "photo trick". I never really meant it when I told you and your brothers to "go play in traffic." 😉
Hi TXAlleKat!!!
@lrayholly: not a phototrick…. I’ve just been studying zen.
So THIS is what you do while I’m asleep :)…
This is a great idea, and it came out fabulous! Good idea to shoot it around the bend, very cool.
friggen cool. holy wow.
This is Amazing!! Such a great idea and it came out beautifully ….I’m so glad you were finally able to do it!
Great shot- I love it!
@beststephi: when I’m not out saving the world… yeah
@mynameismoe: thanx
@boheme333: yeah, me too. Im actually rather pleased with how it turned out.
@randeclip: thank you.
BRAVO!!!! Nicely done! Love the idea and you executed it perfectly!
@corkaborka77: Thank you. I’m glad so many people liked it. It doesn’t have as many views as I expected but its gotten a lot of positive comments.
yup… how do i (we) top that…?? I’ll (we’ll) try but…
Very groovy concept!
@Cobby17: I see you’re fond of long exposure car trail shots… I’m sure you’ll find something. Thank you for the comment.
This is pretty damn cool, Mav. Your skillz never cease to impress.
@jessi.: thanx jessi, its easy… you just have to believe you’re intangible. if you really and truly believe the car will pass right through you. 😉
What can I say that hasn’t been said? It’s a very cool shot. The things you can do with a bulb/time exposure. 🙂
nicely done.
You win, hands down!
I’m going to try this tomorrow night. If it backfires, send flowers.
Very cool. 🙂
very very cool – and brave! – shot. Bravo!
Fabulous idea and very well executed. Impressive. Did you know the person driving the car? Cause any accidents? ; )

@mv4: thank you
@g.originals: what’s the prize?
@Miss Emily goes bananas: good luck. Remember, clear your mind and believe through the car! 🙂
@SydB42: thanks.
@FW Sunshine: not really. Its all done with smoke and mirrors.
@Cognitive Ambition: Nope. I just took a shot as the car was coming by.
Great shot! Wonderful work!
Very cool. Did it hurt?

@sadandbeautiful (Sarah): Thanx. And nope. No Gold Star! I figured I would get one too… But mostly I figured that because of all the people who have been favoriting it.
@Cayusa: thank you.
wow! excellent!! i’m a bit behind…and i went to the most recent selfie and found the link…you had me a little (a lot!) scared that you actually were in a car accident!
this is awesome!
@pi c’s: nope, no accident. Just a little bit of super power usage. Thanks.
Fanfriggintastic!
(from TACWD&D)
@evilmightyacorn: thankfrigginyou! 🙂
Ahhh grasshopper! You jump very high, I see!
@lrayholly: jumping expends too much energy… I’m telling you… just pass through the car.
I’ll give you a red heart instead of a gold star… is that ok?

Creepy! great shot. I’m going try that…and hopefully not get hit by a car 🙂
@Jimmy Dushku: well, to be fair, I employed trick photography. So just, you know, be careful. If you do it, please leave me a link so I can see.
I’m an admin for a group called Ghost World, and I’d love to have your photo added to the group.

WoW! This is a really great picture!
I keep a blog called Top Ten Pictures of the Day.
I find ten pictures everyday that I feel are tops in some way
I am pleased to say that this picture has made its way onto today’s post

It is both beautiful and excellent.
One of the Top Ten Light Trail Pics!!!
Congratulations and thanks for sharing!
…
@toptenpicturesblog: thank you.
Very cool effect. Is the yellow light trail from the side marker? If so, shouldn’t it also pass on the camera side of the figure?
@GregMillsDotCom: hmmm… i think you’re probably right. *sigh*
clever idea mate, nice one!
@Paulio Geordio: thank you.
What a fantastic shot! Excellent!
@: thanks.
