I’m always amazed at the kinds of toys kids have today. How much cooler they are than "back in my day." But the really odd thing about kids is how they can be amused by very simple things that maybe grown-ups take for granted.
Steph and I went to a birthday party for a two year old today. The second we walked in the door, his father informed us that we had to get our pictures taken. You see, Ted (the birthday boy) had a little brother born earlier in the week. When he went to the hospital to visit and meet the new baby, they gave him a visitor’s badge. He loves the thing. Thinks it’s the coolest thing in the world. So today at his birthday party, everyone had to have one, including the 6 day old little brother and the oversized Elmo doll.
I wish I could be amused by such simple things. I only get that kind of smile at my birthday parties because there are women running around in their underwear.
By the way, today is 60% of the project done. I have completed a passing grade.
I think it’s cute that Elmo had a badge too. Birthdays with women in their underwear sounds quite fun. Come to think of it, I always get to see a woman in her underwear on my birthday. Granted, it’s usually me…
@Kungfukitten: half dressed drunken women on my birthday is a long standing tradition. Elmo with the nametag was really cute.
That’s really cool actually. I think anyway.
Personally I think you should institute the name badge thingy at your next party. Drunken people might find it helpful.

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)
@Jack Scoresby: Yeah, I think there’s something really stoic about cutting off at the chin like that. Of course I was lazy and the focus isn’t great.
@lrayholly: there tend to not be places to pin them.
You went the same place I was going to go on the name tags for half-nekkid women. No place to pin them. Unless, they have piercings!
@Travelinjim: some do… but still. I think I’ll just let Ted keep his party theme and I’ll keep mine.
Great story and there is a lesson for us all in that 🙂
@Dshalock the Libertarian: yep. Stay 2 years old forever. Thanks
That is such a great story. It’s a lot of fun seeing the world through the eyes of children. One of my favorite things about being a mom is getting to see all sorts of things that are mundane through two new sets of eyes who think they’re the greatest thing ever. It’s amazing how much fun kids can have with an empty paper towel roll and other "trash", not to mention the typical cardboard box (it is true that young children in particular often get more enjoyment out of the box).
(oh, and I have to admit, the time I visited my husband’s office when he first started working there, I also thought it was really cool that I got a photo name badge just to visit for a few minutes, so I guess there’s still a little kid in me. As for name badges at your party, that one was on a sticker, so you could stick it anywhere). 😉
Stickers? bah! you need inkjet temporary tattoo id badges.
You weren’t excited by the badge???? What a shame. Where is your inner child? AHAHAHAHAHA! I think that was cute and I love that you did your 365 with it.
@SydB42: Stickers, like pins wouldn’t quite go with the theme. I think I’ll just let him keep his theme and I’ll keep mine.
@wooble: that might actually go over better.
@PhotoKat: sorry, didn’t see your comment before. Didn’t mean to snub you there. I don’t know that I was excited about the badge. I did think it was cute. My favorite part is that is says "Badge" on it.
yay for passing grades….but i know we’re all striving for excellence here by moving to the "top of the class". yes, you’re right…children ARE amused by the simplest things. I said "conversation" the other day…as in "we’re not having this conversation anymore" to my little guy (2)…he couldn’t stop laughing and repeating the word….who knew?!
@pi c’s: hmmm… I guess its a funny sounding word. *shrug*
