And I am done. The talk went well. About 30 people attended my session, and they seemed more interested in me than the other speakers (at least judging by the question and answer phase). One of the panelists didn’t show up so I had a little more time to talk than I thought I would which worked out well. I didn’t read my paper as written because I kind of consider just readig at a academic conference to be a little boring, you’re supposed to be "presenting." So I just made sure to hit all my key points and I lectured freeform. I’m a lot more comfortable that way anyway. When I cut a promo in wrestling, I don’t write anything down. I have a few thoughts I want to cover, maybe a couple one-liners to drop, and I wing it. It feels much more natural to me, and I guess I have enough charisma to carry it, because It went pretty well. I tossed in a couple jokes which people appreicated. People made notes on what I was saying to ask questions, and one of the other panelists even referenced me by quoting me in his talk. So I was pretty happy about it.
Before I gave the talk, I got to the room early and just sat down in the chair and mentally centered myself. I considered snapping a pic while I was talking but that would have been distracting. So instead, we have a picture of my mental preparation.
Now that all of that is done, I’m going to spend the rest of the evening just relaxing at my friends house. I’m actually still kind of sick. I had just been fighting it to get through the day. I can feel it catching up with my body though. So here’s hoping I survive the rest of the weekend.
excellent shot. really captures the mood.
@artsy_T: thank you. I guess what makes it is that its authentic. I really was concentrating on everything I wanted to cover while I took it.
So glad to hear it went well! Sounds like you should be proud.
Great shot…excellent b/w.
@sadandbeautiful (Sarah): I am, and thanks.
Told you you’d be brilliant 😉

@Rachel.::.K: yep. Thanks.
Bravo, Bravo! And you look oh so distinguished up there, I must say 😉

@lrayholly: thank you
When I saw the thumbnail, I expected to see your description "missing my wife, eating alone" or something like that… But I was way off!! You look handsome here, intense focus works well on you. (And congrats on coming through with flying colors!)
@Ms.Blue: well, to be fair, I really do miss her, as I was saying to her on the phone just a couple hours ago. But I wasn’t thinking about that at that very moment.
Now you can concentrate on getting healthy again.
And get a job, you slacker. :oP

@Sick Little Monkey: yeah. Actually, I was hoping to have a job by now. I thought the one company would call me before I left for here, but I guess not. Maybe I’ll call them on Monday.
YAY! for you 😀 Congrats on finishing it and for doing it well and in your own way. Reading verbatim from a paper at a conference or any meeting, whatever, is so terrible…and puts people instantly to sleep….at least "this" people 😉
Hope you feel better and that you don’t spread your nasty cold germs to your hosts!!!
@pi c’s: well, that’s what most people do at these things. But I like to be "better" than that if I can.
And actually, my host is sicker than I am… I’m hoping I don’t get something else from him.
Hey! Congrats on getting the presentation done! Sounds like it went well too!

@Travelinjim: it did… I think. I had a lot of positive feedback, anyway. Thanks.
