I really only had one goal today. I wanted to go to an arcade and get a shot of me playing pinball. I love pinball. I used to have a Twilight Zone machine in my living room. Years ago, my car broke down and I had to sell it, because as much as I love pinball, it wasn’t helping me get back and forth to work. That may have been one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make. One day I will own one again.
Anyway, right when I was getting up, I got a call from a recruiter for a job asking if I could send them a link to my new website and come in and talk to them for a quick interview. So I ended up spending the afternoon doing that, and when I went to go do my pinball photoshoot, I found that the arcade that I wanted to shoot at was closed on Wednesdays. So my one goal for today was a bust. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow.
In any case, I went to pick up my comics and then had dinner with Steph. When i got home I decided it’d be fun to do another studio shot. I actually thought of this a couple days ago. The biggest problem was I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to actually get a good card castle built. I used to love trying to do that as a kid, but I’ve never been super good at it. Steph recommended that I just tape the cards together and cheat, but I’m all about honesty in my photography. Actually, I’m not at all, but for some reason I really wanted to build this for real. It took a while, but I did get it. Go me.
Oh yeah, note the playing card brand.
your lighting and compo are fantastic
@*chomchom*: thank you. I’m glad you like it.
Oh this is super cool! I’ve always loved these; I never had the steady nerves to get very far though. Another skill… you are just soooo talented 😉 Super photo!
@lrayholly: I wouldn’t have been able to get it any higher than I did. So I don’t know how skilled I am. Glad you like it though. Thanks.
… honesty? … bwahahahahaha! …
@leafy: yeah… well, there you go.
You totally have the skillz, Mav. I bow to your greatness.
@jessi.: 🙂 *blush* Thank you.
great concentration, composition
it’s most excellent.
Hehe! Nice one! I did a house of cards one a while back and it was so infuriating the way the whole thing would collapse between firing off the remote and the camera taking the photo! Yep I recognise that look of intense concentration!!
Great lighting!
That takes some mad skills. Sorry about the arcade being closed….i hate when that happens. At least you got a great shot out of it!

Seen in my contacts’ photos. (?)
@ms.Tea: thank you.
@practicalowl: yeah, I was lucky. I wasn’t even using the remote, just going back and forth to the camera, and the cards were staying pretty steady, once I go them basically set up.
@mesh2: thank you. I may try again today.
You are my winner!

What a gorgeous shot. fave fave fave fave fave
What I love about it is the amazing sense of balance- no pun intended- and the warmth of the color.
