Spent the day with Cheryl. Back before I was a bum (errr… starving artist), I used to be a pretty decent user interface (UI) designer. Cheryl was my intern. Over the years she’s become a really good friend. These days, Cheryl lives in Seattle where she designs video games for Nintendo Gameboys (right now she’s doing Shrek 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 3). She’s also one of the voices in the game the crazy successful Sims video games (she’s a little easier to understand in real life). So whenever you play a video game, keep in mind that it might not exist were it not for my supremely excellent mentoring skills.
Anyway, Cherie lives in Seattle now, and very infrequently gets back to Pittsburgh (nor do I get out to Seattle) so we don’t see each other very often. But she was in town this weekend for CMU’s Carnival (a big celebration that Carnegie Mellon, our alma mater, throws every year. Since I live here, I mostly ignore it. But its a big deal for a lot of alumni who have since left town). She agreed to spend the day with me. So we went to brunch and then hung out at my place playing video games (I’m the first person she’s ever met with a PS3 "in the wild") and taking pictures. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to do so again some day soon.
And yes, for any geeks out there. Sometimes there are hot chicks who design video games. There you go.
Niice to see you smile again! Cute portrait together.
@Ms.Blue: I tend to joke about never smiling a lot. Actually I do smile. I just don’t show my teeth. Cherie and I actually discussed that about 2 minutes before we took this pic. Which is why I am trying.
This is really nice, I like it. What do you mean, you don’t like to show your teeth? Those teeth cost me a pretty penny! You need to be flashing those suckers all of the time!
@lrayholly: I can’t help it. At this point, my teeth are probably as nice as anyone’s in the world, and they should be, it took what? 3? 4 years to reconstruct my jaw? But I spent the first half of my life being self-concious about it and basically training myself not to show them and I never overcame that.
Lovely shot! The skin colors make such a good contrast, especially with the black background and the way your dark clothes just fade into the background. Your smile looks great. I rarely show teeth too, and I don’t have such a good reason. You both look very happy.
@Silver Starre: yeah, I tend to wear black a lot, and since I’m very fond of chiaroscuro photography, I blend into the background a lot. I kind of like the effect of having someone brighter in the pic so that I kind of envelop her from the shadows. I’ve done it with Steph before as well, though not as dramatically. I have an idea for a similar pic with Steph that I might do at some point if I can get her to pose with me.
Anyway, yeah, I was happy to see Cheryl. I got to hang out with her when I was in Seattle on business last year (she was the only one of my many friends there I did get to see) and we always have fun. I get along with her as well as pretty much anyone I’ve ever worked with.
CUTE!
@PhotoKat: which one of us? 😉
make sure you send up a flare the next time you come to Seattle!!

Seen in your 365 days set. (?)
@lalalaa Dolce Vita: don’t know when that’s going to be. I was there last year, and in 1998, so that means I’m not due again until 2014.
