Part of me wonders if I am starting to lose my mind without having a day job. I was at every end of the multidimensional extreme today. I had about an hour of misery and uselessness as I fell into despair thinking I’m never going to find anything to pay my bills. I had about twenty minutes of hope where I was applying for some more jobs. A couple minutes of anxiousness when I thought I was going to get a chance to talk to one of the recruiters for a job I am already up for (I didn’t). A nice bit of restful peace where I was taking photos in my studio. And a bit of pipedreaming at being a full time photographer when I was setting up a couple of tarot shoots for this Thursday and Friday.
Too much of an emotional gamut. I’m famished. Luckily I’m going out to dinner with Steph’s family in a few minutes.
This pic may serve as my CWD high key assignment for this week. Depends on what I do during the shoot with the models on Thursday. So I’d love anyone’s opinions (positive and negative) on it.
The tat looks bitchin’, though I think more harsh shadows would do this shot well. But then again, of course I’d think that.
Lovin’ the tattoo!! Great portrait! 🙂
I like it! Wow! Too bad I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about technically. But if you just want to go on whether or not it looks good – Wow!
@Jack Scoresby: normally I would have, but I wanted to do something high key for the CWD assignment, and I figured it was good to go in a different direction every once in a while.
@herbrokentoy: thank you. The tattoo was slightly digitally enhanced to really make it pop here.
@lrayholly: that’s good enough. Thank you.
Believe it or not, I think it needs to be even brighter.
@MegaBee: to what end? You want like just an outline look like this?
or did you have something else in mind?
Had to come back to fave this. Can I vote again… don’t make it lighter… I got in trouble with that (Ok, that’s the extent of my technical knowledge).
@lrayholly: hahah… thanx. I’m pretty happy with it where it is.
I would vanish completely in high key, you’d only see my eyes – like a polar bear ina snowstorm (sss sss sss).
I hear you on the emotional rollercoaster – I’m in the car behind you with my arms in the air screaming my head off.
@Qathi: the trick is deciding exactly where to set the tonal range. I actually use a channel mixer first then the levels histogram. You can extend the skin tone to wherever you wanted. If I wanted to be floating eyes and outlines (like I did in the pic I linked to earlier) with me, I could do that too.
Yeah. How’d you do that!?
@MegaBee: nice even lighting, A channel mixer layer with the eyes masked out. selective use of adjustment layers and masks. Tweaking the opacity and the compositing modes a little bit.
This is a wonderful high key SP! I don’t think I would change it.
@*boheme*: I don’t think that I’m going to change it. Its more that if I happen to do a better high key shot during tomorrows photoshoot (which I may or may not… I’m much more a low-key photographer), I might switch it out. Anyway, thank you. I’m glad you like it.
I think you nailed it. It’s not too bright, which I did on mine. I love how your hair, beard, and tat are emphasized. /cwd/
@M e l o d y: thank you. I’m glad you like it.
really good pic…….love it.
@karlajdee: thank you
Your tattoo looks like it’s floating off your arm… like very much.

@adayinthelife: thank you. That’s actually kind of the effect I was going for, and I’ll admit, I actually used a little bit of digital retouching to get it.
well, i can’t speak for your "losing your mind without a job" b/c I have days like that myself…but at least I have someone to take care of besides myself during those hours of non-paying work.
your high key assignment…spot on!

@pi c’s: yeah, this losing my mind thing will probably be kinda fun once I get used to it. I need a schtick. Like maybe carrying a log everywhere I go. That’s been done before. But I’ll figure something out.
Glad you like the pic. Thanx.
Chris, what a strong portrait! You are very talented. Best wishes.
@d.rex: Thanx, Dave.
@Nor757: thank you. I’m glad you like it. And thank you very much for the compliment.
Chris: I’m self-employed at home with 3 young kids, and I do understand a lot of the stressors you’ve mentioned. Just keep that forward momentum going and don’t give in to the temptation to freeze up.
This portrait is just beautiful. It’s strong, it’s sexy, it has a powerful emotional impact through the eye contact. Rock on, dude.
@Frageelay: yeah, I’m doing ok. I was in a bad mood that day and I’m just trying to keep the pictures honest. I’m glad you like it. Hopefully something paying will come my way soon though.
Excellent shot. I think this is one of the best HK photos submitted this week.
"@adayinthelife: thank you. That’s actually kind of the effect I was going for, and I’ll admit, I actually used a little bit of digital retouching to get it."
I am a big fan of the digital retouch… and if I hadn’t mentioned it before, your hair? Awesome.
@FadderUri: thanks. I’m glad you appreicate it.
@adayinthelife: me too. And thank you.
Very nice work! I love your tat. And your expression here is great, you are an incredible photographer chris!
