XVIII – The Moon

XVIII - The Moon

The fourth completed card in my tarot card series.

Mallory as the Moon. I had originally envisioned this as a card where she was standing and looking at the moon, but as we were shooting yesterday, she got tired of standing and wanted to shoot some sitting down. I really loved her head placement in this one and the arch of her back. I think the facial expression is perfect for what I wanted to convey.

The biggest thing I am unsure of is the placement of the moon. When I took the pic of the moon last week, I really had envisioned her looking at it, not away, but I do feel as though it kind of works how it is. Not positive though.

The Moon does work there behind her. It’s as though the Moon’s looking at her.

@MegaBee: hmmm… I hadn’t really thought of it that way, but I think that might work. Thanks.

I don’t believe the composition would look as good with the moon placed elsewhere…I love the way the moon curve mimics the curve of her back…lovely series so far…

@Vashtia: you’re right. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but the way the two curves meet is kind of nice. Thank you.

I agree with megabee- it’s as if the moon is looking at the girl, very nice. unique take on the moon card.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)

I don’t mind her not looking at the moon. I interpreted as she IS the moon. the way she’s sitting and the line her body as a whole makes, is the same as the moon above her. I don’t know if that’s intentional, but it’s damned cool!

@lalalaa Dolce Vita: Thank you. Unlike the Waite Rider deck, I’m intending to make every card personified. There are a few that I’m not sure on. We’ll see how it goes.

@lrayholly: well, I do want the individuals to be ther personification of the card if that makes sense. And the thought that she was the moon did occur to me. At one point I was going to superimpose her entirely in it, but I really liked how this worked compositionally.

Really beautifully done, and agree with the comments above about the composition…the moon placement works well here!

@sadandbeautiful (Sarah): yeah, in a lot of ways this is my favorite so far. I think she’s perfectly placed and looks gorgeous.

Good decision on the moon – no way to do it well if in front of her. Lovely pose and capture of the model.

@xrox: thank you. I feel a lot better about it now that I’ve gotten such positive approval.

Yes–the moon personified! Glad she wasn’t flashing her ass at us–lol

@BocaBlaise: thanks. I thought she was perfect for it myself.

I think the composition is excellent. It really drew me in just glancing at the set as a whole. (Even before I was magnetized to your devil and that’s saying a lot, because give me a lean and defiant naughty-looking boy and I’m actually in heaven.)

i like this placement it’s like the moon (her answer is there but she’s not seen it because she’s looking elsewhere . just my thought , but i do like the sitting down and material draped over style
