Day 306 of 365 days.

Today was a crappy annoying day that I just assume never think about again, and I sure as hell don’t want to write it down here so I can relive it when I look back a week, month, year or decade down the line. Suffice it to say I am depressed and annoyed and that’s enough.

Instead I will talk about the one good thing that happened today, born of something crappy that happened yesterday. When setting up yesterday’s shot (which was much better than this one i think), I broke the pan handle off of my tripod. My brand new $100 tripod that I’ve had less than a month. It broke off not by me doing anything crazy or stupid. No, it broke off by me using it to pan. You know, the very function for which it is designed. Anyway, I wrote the company late last night asking if my warranty covered it or not, and they responded by 11am this morning asking for my address so they could send me a replacement handle. No questions asked. No hassle. Just nice worry free customer service, in under 12 hours. So if you’re in the market for a tripod, I feel like I have to recommend Sunpak. Quite possibly the best customer service I’ve ever received.

I wish I bought my life there. There’s tons of stuff I wish they could fix that easily.

Amen! I say you can’t pay enough for excellent customer service! You know I feel that way about Amazon too.

BTW thank you for explaining what that handle is for (she says stupidly)… I mean, I guessed, and I used it to move the camera back and forth, but I really didn’t have a clue 🙂 See, I keep telling people how educational it is to be a flickrite!

And I truly hope things improve soon, very soon. Hugs!

@lrayholly: yeah, it was really nice of them. I was quite happy about it. And wait, you didn’t know what it was called or what it was for? And thank you for the hugs.

@Gleep52: yep. you use the same?

Yeah – it’s the one I take with me for in the field… heavy, but the thing has taken a beating VERY well. Only tripod I found that can hold my heavy L lenses and still make me feel good walking away from it.

I unscrewed the pan handle off of mine when I got it… I think I’ve still got it laying around at home if you want it. (If Sunpak doesn’t come through) I use the screw handle/lock on the side to loosen or tighten it… I found the pan handle to stick too far into my shoulder when I had to look through the viewfinder in some cases…

Once I found out the pan handle wasn’t absolutely neccessary, I got used to using it without the handle. But it IS really nice to hear that sunpak was so cooperative in helping you get it fixed. I’m honestly surprised it broke – but then again, I haven’t used the handle on mine either 🙂 It’s probably the weakest part!

@Gleep52: thanks. If they don’t come through, I might take you up on that. Do you have a problem getting the spikes in the legs to retract and extend cleanly? That’s my biggest real complaint about it. What do you use for an indoor tripod?
