*sigh*
So I hobbled up to the cigarette store after dinner to get some smokes (my knee is still screwed) and I looked up in the sky and the clouds were back lit in the absolute most beautiful way and I knew it had to be today’s self-portrait. So I hobbled back home and got my camera and my 50mm lens and tripod and then hobbled back up the hill to set up.
And then I kncked my tripod over!
*ARRRRGGGGHHHHH*
Luckily my camera is fine, hence me not just killing myself on the spot, but the casing to the 50 completely cracked open. It’s ruined.
On a good note, at least it was my cheapest lens. But as any photographer knows, the 50 is like the bread and butter. I’ve already ordered a new one.
*sigh*
I do love my 50.
Also, you should really not go buy smokes anymore. Obviously.
@jessi.: everything was fine when I was just going to buy cigarettes. It was the second trip where I broke the lens. Obviously, the lesson is that I shouldn’t take pictures outside.
No shit.
It’s not the cigarettes! It’s the blasted hills in Pittsburgh! Sorry about the lens… the 50 is my favorite! Good thing it’s the cheapest!
@365bunnies: *sigh*
@lrayholly: exactly. I actually had it set up and was walking away listening to the timer and all of a sudden I heard a crash. I guess gravity and slope got the better of it.
That is TOO sad!! It sounds like it would have been a great shot…..

Seen on my Flickr home page. (?)
@Babs1696: oh, it wasn’t the first one. I took a couple others, but they weren’t very good. Really, I should have used a different lens than the 50mm.
I see. You should still maybe not buy cigarettes anymore. It’s a disgusting habit! 😛
Suck! Yeah… I’d cry if my 50 broke. It’s my cheapest and most favorite lens.
oh no what a pain! like you say though at least it’s one of the cheapest in the arsenal but soooooooo good.
@jessi.: Well, ok… that may be true too.
@Stephen Poff: yeah. But like I said, at least it wasn’t my 70-300 or something (Which would have been much better for the shot, but had it broken, I’d really cry).
@disco~stu: Yeah. I was looking at others when I replaced it. Besides the 1.8 for $90. There’s a 1.4 for $350 or so, that I knew about. And you can get a 1.2 USM 50mm prime for like $1300! *Drool!* I of course when with the $90 job.
As everyone has said, I love my 50mm. With respect to price, it’s the coolest one I own.
@shockingbird: yep. Amazon Prime assures me that they shipped a new one out to me this afternoon. I should have it on Thursday.
oh no! I’m glad you’re already replacing it. But sorry it broke. Even if it’s the cheapest of your lenses it’s not like you’re made of money. *hug*
I feel ya dawg, I feel ya!
@mickeysacks: yep. Already have the new one. And yeah, not made of money, but necessities are necessities.
@thehalfshow.com: heh… yeah, I know a lot of people who have broken them lately.
