Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Went to Steph’s brother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. Was what it was, sat around and ate turkey. But got to see something cooler than that.
Steph’s niece has pet butterflies. This is interesting mostly because it never occurred to me before that anyone would ever keep butterflies as a pet.
Well, that’s not exactly true. When I was a kid we used to go out and catch butterflies and every other insect we could find and keep them in jars. I mean, sure they’d die after a day or two, but they were insects. All we had to do was go back outside and get more.
But this is a little different. Apparently she actually mail ordered cocooned caterpillars and waited for them to hatch and now she keeps them in a little net cage at night and lets them fly around in her room by day. It’s kind of interesting actually.
Of course, I still don’t see why you’d actually order them instead of just getting them from outside. Of course it’s winter right now, so there aren’t any outside, but I mean, I’m betting they’ll come back in the spring.
Totally cute, though.
That is so awesome, I bet all the girls at her school wanna go hang out in her room – I would.
@lacychenault: I asked her if any of her friends had come by to see them yet and she said no. Kids just don’t know what’s cool these days.
Beautiful shot, Mav.
I love this.
Great shot and we’ve done that before. It’s pretty cool.
@Tiburón Azulverde: thanks.
@SaylaMarz: yeah, I thought it was cute.
@BeguilingSunflower: thanks. And done what? Ordered butterflies?
Ordered the butterflies, watched them grow, played with them for a few days. Did the same with ladybugs.
This is awesome.
@BeguilingSunflower: ah… cool
@365bunnies: thank you.
Absolutely wonderful I think, don’t think one can do that here in Sweden. Beautiful picture of course, but all your work is fantastic.
@Baroness Nordmark: thank you. And I don’t know if you can mail order butterflies in sweeden or not, but what’s to keep you from just going outside and getting some? thanks for the kind words.
