Meet the Sree’s.
I love Indian Food. I was first introduced to it back in college way back in 1994 (wow I’m old) when a man named Sreevardhan Mekala (Mr. Sree) and his wife, Vydehi (Mrs. Sree) started a restaurant in town and began driving their van to my college campus to sell lunch as a lunch cart. It’s because of the Sree’s that I maintained any semblance of a healthy diet in college.
Anyway, I’ve been eating at Sree’s semi-regularly ever since. Especially when I happen to be working near one of their three locations (which I don’t currently so I don’t get to very often anymore).
On August 27th, 2000, the Sree’s(yeah, we use his first name like it’s their last) had their only daughter, Sreethanaya. So I’ve literally gotten to watch her grow up.
Last year, Mr. Sree was diagnosed with Lou Gherig’s disease, so he hasn’t been working. But I like to check in at the restaurant and ask Mrs. Sree how he’s doing from time to time.
Today, I was off work to attend a design training session downtown, two blocks from the restaurant there, so I stopped in for lunch. It happened to be Sreethanaya’s birthday so I asked them to take a picture with me. Mrs. Sree says that Mr. Sree is doing better. He’s stable, but his condition hasn’t improved. They’re hoping for the best, So am I.
But anyway, if you’re ever in Pittsburgh, and you want the yummiest, most filling lunch that $5 can buy, you definitely should stop in one of their restaurants. You won’t be sorry.
This is really nice. This is why I think I have the best sons in the world, they’ve become the most amazing adults. Wishing the best to the Sree’s!
Wow, I hadn’t heard about Mr. Sree’s condition. God, I love their food!
Their spinach black-eyed peas just may be the tastiest and healthiest food ever (esp. with the chicken)!
