Why do technology companies feel the need to advertise based primarilly on being cheaper than the competition (usually Apple). You don’t see commercials for the Kia going “and we’re half the price of a Corvette!!” You don’t see Bud light going “why waste your money on Cristal?” Even if you’re Coke or Pepsi or Tide or Clorox you just say you’re “8 out of 10 people prefer us to the (nameless) competition.”
If Microsoft made a commercial that said “hey, we run all windows software and you can use us as a tablet and we’re only $350!” I might say “hmm, maybe I should get one of those, just to have one.” But every time I see a commercial for the Surface and they keep going “and we’re half the price of the iPad!” and worse, they ACTUALLY PUT THE BRAND NEW IPAD IN THE COMMERCIAL NEXT TO IT, it just makes me wonder “gee, and they’re being outsold like 40-1! Something about that must be really broken.”
