Ok, survey on human nature time:
Stephanie is watching a news special about the Franklin High stabbing. They had an interview on with a boy who saved the life of his best friend (a girl) by pushing her out of the way of the stabber and ended up getting stabbed himself in the process. After the knifeman moved on, girl applied pressure to boy’s wound until paramedics rescued him. Lovely story about two teens saving each other’s lives. News interviews them and girl is in the hospital holding boy’s hand and saying “he saved my life, I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to repay him for that.” Boy says something like “I’m just glad you’re ok.” they hug. And the news goes on to say “they’re looking forward to going to prom together.”
So I make a comment to the effect of “Boy is thinking, I am SOOO getting laid.” and Steph tells me that I’m being a pig. I ask why and she says “how can you be thinking of sex at a time like that.” and I said “I’m not, I don’t know that girl. I don’t want to fuck her.” Steph says “no, how can you think that he’s thinking about it. It’s a touching story about people being decent human beings and you had to make it piggish.” I say “It’s not piggish. He saved her life. He obviously likes her. Clearly he’s hoping he gets laid.” Steph disagrees. She thinks that not everyone is as piggish as I am.
So here’s the question. I contend that everyone IS as piggish as I am. At the very least, 99% of 17 year old boys are as piggish as I am. I’m not saying he was thinking in the heat of the moment “I’m gonna take this blade and then she’s going to want to fuck me.” But I do think, after the fact, where he has nothing to do but sit up in the hospital watching Judge Judy with an IV drip in his arm the thought “How can I make this work for me?” has occurred to him a few times.
So oh land of Facebook, What do you think? Steph is particularly interested in whether or not women will agree with me. Do you think that a 17 year old boy who just saved “his best friend” who he intends to take to prom from being murdered is hoping that at the very least this results in a quick hand job or something?
EDIT: adding in: steph says “I wouldn’t be surprised if he thinks that. I think it’s piggish that it occurred to Mav as a viewer watching it.” I contend that many home viewers think that the second she says “I don’t know how I’ll ever repay him.”
