So basically your excuse for stealing someone else’s stuff is “hey, I’m willing to give my stuff away, so I should be able to take other people’s stuff.”
Yeah… uh… fuck you guys…
Hmmm… my comic and photography are both free on the internet. Can I take Ronnie Winter’s car?
Band Responds to Copyright Controversy, Believes All Digital Art Should be Free
The original Facebook post that started the whole debacle. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus has responded to the copyright controversy we told you about earlier toda
Hey, they want to undervalue themselves, let em… But they still need to pay for he photo. 😉
Oh, I have no problem with them giving away their stuff. I was stupid excited when De La Soul did it a few weeks ago. And I don’t think it even undervalues them. It’s brilliant. In 2014, the real money in music comes from touring. But yeah, giving away something doesn’t give you license to steal something else. And even if it did, certainly not BEFORE the fact. “We *intend* to give away our music, so we can steal this photo.”
Really, its even worse, because as Moose said, giving away your catalog for download is really just charging “free” for personal use. It doesn’t change licensing agreements. So if someone wants to use Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’s biggest hit, Face Down, in a movie, you can bet your ass they’d want royalties for it.
Also, I just love the internet sometimes. I went to their wikipedia page to find out what their biggest hit was, and it currently looks like this:
I just meant undervalue themselves like they are with the photographers work, not necessarily the catalog of ‘music’.
