So, while I was in line at the store to get cigarettes a little bit ago, I overheard something (you always overhear interesting stuff in line at the convenience store). Some woman was telling her friend that she was sick of the media concentrating on all of the negative press the NFL gets with Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice and how come you never hear anything about the good stuff like the Ma’ake Kemoeatu giving Chris Kemoeatu his kidney.
Uh…. you do hear about it… that’s how you know, lady…
Seriously though… she went on talking about how heroic and selfless it was and its just wonderful that a Baltimore Raven and a Pittsburgh Steeler can see past football and work together like that. He gave up his career. Why can’t the news focus on that?
Uh…
I keep hearing about this story. The lady at Unimart wasn’t alone. I’ve seen it on the news a couple times in the last couple weeks, and they always spin it the same way “Raven and Steelers set rivalry aside to save a life.” Such a wonderful human interest story. It’s almost enough to make you for get that IT’S HIS FUCKING BROTHER!!! But, it has nothing to do with any of the other bone headed stuff that’s been going on in the NFL lately. And frankly, it doesn’t have anything to do with either of their teams.
Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s a wonderful and loving thing that he did. His brother was dying, and he loves him, so he helped.
Of course he did! What else would he do? I’m a Steelers fan. If one of my brothers needed a kidney, and I was a match, and I said “Nope, he’s a Browns fan. Let him die!” my mother would kick my ass!
It would be way more selfless if he wasn’t retired.
Well, to be fair to him, I do believe he officially retired so that he could donate the kidney. That said, he wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire.
It appears that the time-table feels off because there were other things that needed to happen before the transplant could take place. So he retired in 2012 fully expecting that the transplant would happen ASAP.

Yes, yes, she just might. 😉
Yes but your mother would have to understand the consequences of raising a Browns fan in the first place could possibly include this kind of problem … 😉
Oh but Erin, Chris is the odd man out! We were ALL born in the Cleveland area. But we love Chris anyway 😉
I heard the story an had no idea they were brothers. I never heard their names just their teams. Story is very different with that fact!
