Ace of Swords

Ace of Swords

I love when i meet a model who is absolutely perfect for a Tarot card idea I have. I was talking to my friend Connie (who posed with her son for the Judgement card) and telling her of my idea for the ten and ace of swords cards. I wanted the cutest, most petite, goth girl I could find holding a broad sword bigger than she was. A minute later, Connie found Ambriella on Model Mayhem (where I’ve gotten several models for this project). I wrote her and she was totally into the idea. More pictures to come of her later, but for now, here are the cards I wanted her for. (the ten is here)

6-7-07

Day 300 of 365 days. Ok, yeah… who has known me for more than like 20 seconds and couldn’t see this one coming. I can’t believe I’ve gotten this far. Half the time, it hardly seems like I’ve been doing this project a month, and the other half the time I can’t remember ever NOT…

Page of Swords

Page of Swords

I’ve been getting a lot of sword cards done lately, and so here’s another. Liz came over to pose for me again yesterday and we shot the Page of Swords. This is cool because Liz posing for me last time was what gave me the idea of shooting this deck in the first place, and I was pretty sure where I wanted to use her. So hopefully this one came out ok.

Let me know what you think.

Queen of Swords

Queen of Swords

Yet another tarot card complete. I think Yara was perfect for my Queen of Swords. She had just the right mix of sex appeal and sophistication. When I found out she was a belly dancer as well, I knew exactly where I wanted to take this card. I modified the illustration processing technique slightly from what I did with the Jack of Swords card, and I think I’m pleased with the results. Its a little less comic booky than my original technique. I think it lends more of a fantasy look. The question is, should I stick with it? Should I change the Jack to look like this as well or should I allow some variance of style between cards of the same suit?

Opinions welcome and encouraged.

Damsel 300

Damsel 300

Liz came over to do her shoot for the Maverick Tarot set, where she is my Page of Swords. Never wanting to waste the opportunity at a good photoshoot with someone so babeliscious, we took a bunch of other shots as well.

This was a close second pick for the page card. Ultimately, I decided that the one I picked was much more rebellious and and bold and therefore used it for the Page, but I liked this shot so much that I wanted to do something with it. So I processed it with what I am calling my "300 effect." I like how it turned out a lot.

Yara meditation

Yara meditation

More shots from the Yara photoshoot I did on Thursday. I’m quite pleased with that shoot. I think I got a nice set out of it.

In this one I was trying some other photo processing techniques. Closer to what I’m doing with the Staff cards. I was going for kind of a "300" feel to it.

Yara the barbarian

This won’t mean anything to most people (and 10 points to you if you do get the reference), but this one, more than any other just has a Hyrkanian feel to it. But the pose and facial expression weren’t quite right for the feel I was going for with the Queen of Swords card. Still, I like it, so I wanted to get it posted as well.

I love how her stomach is featured in this one, and with the sword on her head (even though she isn’t balancing it), this pic just really said belly dancing to me.
