Four of Swords

Four of Swords

It’s been a while since I did a new Tarot card again, so it was nice to get this one shot. This is Megan, a new model for me, and I thought she had just the right punky look for my only remaining female sword card (unless I do some reshoots, which I might). She was also adventurous and totally willing to jump in my swimming pool in clothes and swing around a sword that’s almost as big as her. This came out just how I envisioned it, and I really love the motion of it.

Eight of Swords

Eight of Swords

I’ve recently had some thoughts on restructuring the tarot deck. As such I reused two of my old photos for different cards. Of course now by doing so I’ve ended up junking some cards that were already done in order to meet my new designs.

Sigh…

I’m never going to finish this damn thing.

Seven of Swords

Seven of Swords

When Mickey was travelling across country last week for her big move, she and her boyfriend, Jeff, stopped by to do a little photoshoot for the old Tarot deck.

I’ve been looking forward to getting some of the Seven cards done. My theme with the sevens is to use multiple people. I really loved shooting the Lovers and Judgement cards and I was really looking forward to shooting a card with another couple. The interplay you get between two models is always so much more expressive than what you get with one individual alone.

While the other two multiple person cards I did so far were very loving, it was nice to be able to do something antagonistic and moody like this one.

I think they both did a great job.

Nine of Swords

Nine of Swords

With a name like Morganna, I figured I had to use her for a sword card (my gothic look). I think this turned out fairly well. A lot of my more recent tarot cards have been fairly prop heavy. It’s nice to just get one that goes back to basics.

I love her stare in this. I thin its absolutely piercing.

King of Swords

King of Swords

I always love when i get the chance to work with someone who’s not a model. Most people seem to think that they don’t photograph well. But I think that given the right circumstance and concept, anyone can be great.

Doc is the bouncer at the Tennyson, and had seen some of the other tarot cards and was telling me how much he liked them. I looked at him for a moment and then knew that he’d be great for the King of Swords. He has just the kind of imposing and menacing frame that really suits what I wanted for this card.

The shoot was easy and straightforward and I think turned out exactly right.

Day 362 of 365 days. Jack Scoresby is dead. I was forced to take his life. As many of you may know, Jack has been traveling the countryside the last week or so and visiting other flickr photographers. It all sounded very interesting and harmless. He spent the last several days with Katie West. But…

Eight of Swords

Eight of Swords

Two days, two tarot cards in a row. It’s like I’m on a roll.

Adam posed for this card while my computer was in the shop. I really wanted to find a way to really take advantage of the drawing style of the sword cards and still be kind of dynamic. This is what I came up with. All the Eight cards are going to have the symbol incorporated into them as part of the design.

Five of Swords

Five of Swords

I’ve been amazed at how well received the Maverick Tarot project has been. I’ve actually heard from any number of people who want to be a part of it, some as far away as Iowa.

Tiffini wrote me on myspace saying she’d seen a link to my Model Mayhem profile and wanted to be a part of the project. She’d never modeled before, but when has that ever stopped me. And besides, she was excited to give modeling a try. She told me she’d be visiting friends in Pittsburgh soon, and so I figured I’d have to fit her in while she was here. It’s tricky trying to place a model having not met her in person, and when she doesn’t have really good professional shots to give me a feel for her look, but I was able to gauge from other shots that I might want to try her for my five of swords. Defeat. My five cards are all injured or dead people. And it took some playing around but I think I got the look I wanted with this one. And she didn’t even mind me getting "blood" all over her nice white skirt!

Page of Swords

Page of Swords

I’ve been getting a lot of sword cards done lately, and so here’s another. Liz came over to pose for me again yesterday and we shot the Page of Swords. This is cool because Liz posing for me last time was what gave me the idea of shooting this deck in the first place, and I was pretty sure where I wanted to use her. So hopefully this one came out ok.

Let me know what you think.

Day 20 of 365 days. I didn’t know for sure what I wanted to do with today’s photo, but I knew I didn’t want it to be sleep related. About 3 or 4 days into this whole process, I had the idea that perhaps when it was done I might put together a coffee table…
